Starting his professional baseball career on April 20th, 1939 for the Boston Red Sox, the team for whom he played until the end of his career, Ted Williams worked hard to become one of the best hitters in the Major Leagues. "The Splendid Splinter" is the last player in Major League Baseball to hit over .400 in a single season (.406 in 1941). He had a career batting average of .344, with 300 home runs and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
